Obituary for
Barbara Catherine Jedrey
Barbara (Barb) Catherine Jedrey, formerly of District Heights and Annapolis passed away on April 21st in Mooresville NC at the age of 90 surrounded by love and family. She was born on December 6, 1927 in Lynn Massachusetts, the second youngest of eight children from Irish parents Jeremiah and Margaret (Lowry) Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband Charles (Jed) E. Jedrey. Their beautiful marriage was blessed with three children Chris Jedrey, Tom Jedrey & Jackie Curan. She has eight grandchildren: Ryan Jedrey, Jennifer Costilow, Nina Swann, Kelly Willis, Sammie Jedrey, Nicki Jedrey, Kristen Curan and Megan Curan. She was also blessed to see and enjoy nine great grandchildren who called her “GG”: Kayla Jedrey, MacKenzie Jedrey, Jordan Jedrey, Riley Jedrey, Cody Swann, Carlee Swann, Caleb Costilow, Braden Costilow and Ava Bowers.
Barb and Jed moved to Washington DC where she worked at Rueben H. Donnelly. Later, she lived in District Heights and was a superb homemaker and boss of the Jedrey Clan. While the Clan boss, She also worked at the Census Bureau until retirement. In 1989 Barb & Jed moved to Annapolis where she later enjoyed volunteering at the Anne Arundel Medical Center gift store.
Barb was a fun, kind, loving, Irish Mom who loved to sew, shop, read, and completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and close friends. She had a passion for gathering her family at Bethany Beach where she loved the ocean water and referred to it as “delicious”! She was a wonderful cook and baker and is most famous for her special “Jedrey chip dip”, also known as the Redskin dip (for watching the Washington Redskins). Every year on St. Patrick’s Day we celebrated her Irish heritage and Barb always made sure the family had their “green” on.
Barb was a devout Catholic and member of Mt. Calvary Catholic Parish in Forestville, St. Mary’s in Annapolis and St. John Neumann in Annapolis. She was significantly involved in the ECHO retreat program (young adults and High School participants) and the Cursillo retreat program where she enjoyed helping others have a more fulfilling life with Christ.
Barb’s infectious smile, laugh and beautiful blue eyes will be greatly missed.
