Obituary for Thomas Raymond Doran

Thomas Raymond Doran
Thomas Raymond Doran, 91, a 20-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Hyattsville, MD, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his home.
Born on January 25, 1926 in Cleveland, OH to the late Raymond Ketchum and Julia Doran, Thomas graduated in 1944 from Benedictine High School in Richmond, VA. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served during WWII with the Air Transport Command in India. He was stationed for two years at the airbases in Chabua and Barrackpore, before leaving for home on Easter Sunday 1946. He was honorably discharged at Fort Meade, MD on May 25.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology in 1951 from the Catholic University of America, Thomas made his career as an Economist/Statistician for the Army Corps of Engineers, Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, in Washington, DC and at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He retired after 33 years of service.
An avid Washington Nationals and Maryland Terrapin fan, Thomas was a member of the University of Maryland Terrapin Club in College Park. He also collected Lionel trains, loved Christmas and enjoyed volunteering at Anne Arundel Medical Center; he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Thomas’ greatest passion though, was his family, and spending time with them was his greatest joy.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marietta Tana Doran; two sons, Frank J. (Jule) Doran of Sarasota, FL and Thomas L. (Rosemary) Doran of Davidsonville, MD; two daughters, Mary Doran (Mark) Brown of Annapolis, MD and Jean Doran (Steve) Levine of Ellicott City, MD; eleven grandsons, Matt, Cody, Tommy, Kevin, Eric, Alex, Phillip, Andy, Brian, Jeff and Andrew; five granddaughters, Jule, Katie, Laura, Emily Jean and Mary Catherine; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to celebrate Thomas’ life with his family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m.on Monday, April 24 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis.
