Obituary for Rika Tayman

Rika Perikles Tayman, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Davidsonville, MD on February 28, 2021. Born on October 16, 1929 in Cleveland, OH to the late George and Athina Perikles, Rika grew up in White Sulphur Springs, WV and Mount Rainer, MD. She loved dancing and airplanes and at the age of 16, she obtained a job and began taking ballet because she loved to dance so much. After only 2 years of dance lessons, she was invited to join The National Ballet Company. Rika went on to dance at the Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC and then to Europe for 2 years as part of a small act called, “Three Chicks and Chuck.” After returning from Europe, she went to work for American Express. In 1965 she started taking flying lessons and made it through her first solo flight but never went on to get her license. Instead, she started dating her best friend, Lettie Tayman’s brother and on September 10, 1967 she married Arthur Bond Tayman. In 1969, they had one daughter, Victoria Marika. As a family they settled in Davidsonville, MD where they lived for the rest of their lives. Rika worked as a secretary at The Macke Company, Muller Holdings Corp., and at Rifkin, Weiner, Livingston, LLC, Attorneys at Law from where she retired in the fall of 1995. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and all 8 of her grandkids, traveling with Bond, and volunteering at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed working in the yard, crocheting, playing cards with friends and especially spending time with her family. Rika was loved by all who met her, she was kind and hard working and as one of her co-workers said when she retired, “You’re one hell of a Lady.” Rika was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Bond Tayman in April 2019; her brother, Perry Perikles in 1981; her sister, Kiki Cardenas in 2015, and her sister-in-law, Susan Sohn in 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Bickford; her son-in-law, Brian Bickford; her grandchildren, Emily, Daniel, Sarah, Johnathan, Christian, Caleb, Joshua and Anna Bickford; her brother, John Perikles; her sister-in-law, Margie Perikles; brother-in-law, Louis Cardenas; sister-in-law, Lettie Zaffaroni and all her nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held on Monday, March 15, 2021. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401.
