Sheila Bryden Stout, 85, of North Beach, MD, left us peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Olney, MD, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Sheila was born and raised in Brentwood, MD, the daughter of Scottish immigrants, Hamilton Bryden, Jr and Charlotta Bell Bryden. She attended Bladensburg High School and the University of MD where she received her Masters in Physical Education. In 1958, she married Tom Daily and along with their two children, resided in Rockville, MD. Her teaching career took her to Belt Junior High, Walter Johnson High School and Parkland Middle School, all in Montgomery County, MD where she was a successful high school girls basketball and track coach, teaching physical education until her retirement in 1991. While teaching at Walter Johnson, Sheila met her 2nd husband, Jack Stout. Sheila spent her retirement years between her waterfront home in the Holland Point community of North Beach, MD and her winter home at Riverwoods Plantation in Estero, Florida. She was preceded in death by her partner of 30 years, Tom Harbin.
Sheila was a gracious host and enjoyed all things social. She loved her tennis matches, weekly bridge games and volunteering at community events. Sailing and boating on the Chesapeake was her passion. She was an avid reader, excellent cook and loved to travel. Her friendships were lifelong as she always made time to stay in touch. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, co-worker, and sorority sister… Sheila was loved by all.
