Obituary for Bernhardt Andre "Bernie" Pyles Sr.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, Bernhardt A. Pyles, Sr., age 70, passed away in Clinton, MD. Bernie was born on October 11, 1949 in Bethesda, MD to the late Alphonso and Delores Scott Pyles. Bernie grew up and graduated from high school in Washington, DC. After high school graduation Bernie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1972 as a Sergeant. Bernie worked for Woodward and Lothrops until he started his career with the Department of Justice. He retired after 40 years as a a Communications Specialist.

Bernie was a very proud Marine. He enjoyed cooking and was a big supporter of the local DC Sports teams. He enjoyed watching movies and sports on the TV.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sherry D. Pyles.; his three children, Tameka Pyles, Bernhardt A. Pyles, Jr. and Barri Eugene (Monica Theresa) Hutchins; his siblings, Steven Poyner, Ave Maria Reed-Taylor, Donna Jones and Sonita Walker; his grandchildren, Deja Grayson, Kyra Pyles, Azariah Brown, Solomon Christopher and Drew Alexander Hutchins. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 11a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 12 p.m. At the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 6634 St. Barnabas Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. A graveside service with US Marine Corps Military Honors will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 2:30 p.m.
