Obituary for Eugene F. "Gene" Lizer

Eugene F. Lizer, Sr., "Gene" or "Jeep", a 50-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of New Carrollton, MD, died on Monday, December 3, 2019, at his home of congestive heart failure. He was 85. Born June 6, 1934, in Cumberland, MD he attended schools in Cumberland, MD, and Spartanburg, SC. Gene was employed as a truck mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service for 28-years. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Sail and Power Squadron, and The Annapolis Elks Lodge #622. Gene enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and following the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Lizer of Tampa, FL. Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Lizer; two sons, Jimmy Lizer of Duncan, SC and Gene Lizer of Cross Hill, SC; four grandchildren, Brian Lizer of Fayetteville, NC, Angela Lizer of Atlanta, GA, Wendy Watson of Bluffton, SC, and Suzanne Lizer of Cross Hill, SC; and two sisters, Mary Waters of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Joann Fones of Lyman, SC; and 5 great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gene's life on Friday, December 6, 2019, from 10 am until his service begins at 11 am at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD. Immediately following the burial, guests are invited to a luncheon at the Annapolis Elks Club, 2 Pythian Dr, Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arundel Rivers Federation, 2822 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater MD 21037 or Arundelrivers.org for online donations.
