Obituary for Dexter Gerald "Jerry" Nuckels

Dexter Gerald “Jerry” Nuckels, of Long Neck, DE passed away peacefully on July 13, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born to Henry Clarence Nuckels and Alta Mae Looney, on July 6, 1939 in Grundy, VA. Jerry graduated from Council High School and went on to work for Western Union, the CIA, Bache & Co., Merrill Lynch, the Washingtonian, and the Annapolis Capital Gazette. He served in the Army on both active and reserve duty during the Vietnam War.

He was married to Joann Fletcher in 1966; while the marriage ended, they remained close friends. Jerry is survived by his daughter Brenda Medvid, son-in-law Ed Medvid, and grandchildren Catie and John. His sister-in-law Pauline Coleman Nuckels, loving nieces and nephews Kathy, Diane, Janine, John, Kevin, Carolyn, and Debra, grandnieces Krystalyn and Audrey, and a grandnephew Andrew also survive him. Close extended family include Jim, Cachy, and Nicole. His parents and his five brothers and sisters, Ed, Dee, Estil, Ann, and Lorene, preceded Jerry in death.

Services will be held at Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745 on Saturday, July 20, 2019 with a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. and funeral immediately following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
