Obituary for Teresa M. Hardeman

Print
Teresa M. Hardeman, 87, passed away at Hospice of Charles County on November 12, 2018. Teresa was born on August 26, 1931, on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC to the late Thomas and Maybelle Dolan. She attended St. Patrick's All Girls Academy in NW, Washington, DC. She then went to work at the C&P Telephone Company. It was during this time that her best friend set her up on a blind date with the handsome and charming future love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Hardeman, a young Airmen stationed at The Pentagon in DC. When it was time for Chuck to effect a permanent change of duty station, Teresa waited a year to join him in Albuquerque, NM where they married in the Fall of 1950. As the wife of a career Airman, Teresa soon found herself back in her hometown of Washington, DC where her first daughter was born. Again, she and Chuck were on the move and landed in Sacramento, CA. It was here that the trajectory of her life was forever changed as she contracted polio myelitis, which necessitated a move back to the Washington area to be close to family while recovering. Teresa’s strength and determination were key in her near full-recovery, and she would go on to have two more daughters and a son. Despite the physical challenges Teresa faced, she maintained and nurtured her love of swimming, begun as a child where her summers were spent at Herald Harbor Beach near Annapolis, Maryland. This activity played out with her four children where the love of water sports was enjoyed by them all at community swimming pools, and trips to Herald Harbor, to name a few. Teresa is also remembered for being an attentive nurse to her children through childhood illnesses; a consequence of her experiences due to her own multiple illnesses. Teresa’s love for her children was second only to her passion for hospitality. Creating a warm and welcoming home is the source of many memories her family will cherish. Moving every three years afforded Teresa and Chuck, along with their four children to explore both in the United States, and in Europe. Most memorable of those duty stations was in Germany, where along with adding to her brood with babies' number three and four, Teresa enjoyed visits to Rome, Brussels, Paris, Madurodam, Copenhagen, Black Forest, Bavaria, and countless castles all over Germany. Teresa’s favorite pastimes include boating, swimming, house plants, reading, playing cards and board games, especially with her family.

Teresa Hardeman was the beloved wife of the late Charles R. Hardeman. She is survived by her children, Debra A. (Winston) Cannon, Cynthia Boyd, Charles R. (Deborah) Hardeman, Jr., and the late Linda Hardeman, and her sister, Frances Ball. Teresa is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Catherine Jackson and Thomas Dolan, and her parents, Thomas and Maybelle Dolan.
