Joyce L. Brown, “JB”, a longtime resident of Anne Arundel County, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Calvert Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1933, in Washington, D.C. to the late Joseph W. and Bertha Crown Brown. She was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School. JB served her country as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force. Following her time in the military, she continued nursing and eventually became an entrepreneur, opening bars and businesses. An avid Orioles and Ravens fan, she also enjoyed spending time at the beach and caring for her animals. She was a devoted animal lover and gave generously to animal rescue charities In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Haines. She is survived by her nephews; Jay A. Haines and his wife Gayle and Gary Haines and his wife, Cora. Family and friends are invited to celebrate JB's life on Saturday, September 22 from 12 pm until a funeral service begins at 1 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.
