Obituary for Evelyn Marie Settle

Evelyn Marie Settle, 56, a 15-year resident of Lothian, MD and previously of Suitland, MD, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, in an automobile accident.

She was born on December 20, 1961, in District Heights, MD, to the late John Henry and Virginia Settle. She was a dedicated Sergeant at the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for almost 30 years.

Evelyn was a lifelong learner, who never stopped taking classes. She recently earned her Associate's Degree. Her other interests included football (HTTR), bowling, crocheting, and gatherings with her family. She loved food and cooking, A LOT. Most especially she loved to travel, particularly taking cruises. Royal Caribbean will dearly miss her patronage.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Ann Manuel, and brother, John Henry Settle, Jr.

She is survived by her siblings, Mary Dawn Woods, Wanda Lee Nelson, John Robert Settle, Phyllis Andrews, and Bruce Settle; her partner, Tyrone Holland; five nieces and a nephew, Rachelle Woods, Heather Barthel, Jennifer Goins, James Nelson, Jessie Manuel and Sarah Manuel; and 12 great-nieces and nephews: Tristan Hinman, Fiona Hinman, Emma Nelson, Jack Goins, Joshua Goins, Michael Barthel, Jonah Goins, Ethan Barthel, James Barthel, Riley Nelson, Mylee Robinson and Kalel Shackelford.

Friends are invited to celebrate Evelyn's life on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 14908 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, MD. Interment immediately following the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD. Since Evelyn regularly baked to feed the underserved, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Out Reach - Berkeley Place United Methodist Church, 132 Spruce Street, Martinsburg, WV, 25401.
