Obituary for Peter M. Sutton

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Mark Sutton announces his sudden passing on Monday, September 10, 2018, at the age of 73 years at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Pete was born April 30, 1945, in New York City and was a resident of Crofton, Maryland for 49 years. He graduated Penn State University in 1967 with a BA degree. He then joined the Red Cross as a field director. He was stationed at Ft. Meade where he met his wife, Karen. In October of 1968, he started his 44-year career at NSA. The things he held most dearly were God, family, friends, and country. He was always so full of compassion. Love, laughter, and wisdom. He was a mentor, a friend who taught us that family and relationships were what was most important in life. He was a true warrior and fighter and never let anything get him down. He was our "Iron Horse." Pete was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by his surviving family: wife, Karen of 50 years; his three children, Kristine (Frank) Ford, Tammy (Tom) Taylor and Jason (Jennifer) Sutton; and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Brayden and Jackson Ford, Sedona and Luke Taylor, Noah, Joshua and Emma Sutton; his two sisters, Pamela Greenwood and Marcia Webb; and brother, Scott Sutton. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing chess, working on jumble puzzles, watching movies and helping grandchildren with their schoolwork. He loved playing trivia, pool and sports, especially Steelers and Penn State football, Pirates baseball and Syracuse basketball. He loved traveling; cruises were his favorite. He held all his friends close to his heart and loved his Alma Mater, as well as his fraternity brothers. Tom Kuhn was not only one of Pete's fraternity brothers, but he remained Pete's lifelong best friend for 58 years. A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at Riva Trace Baptist Church, 475 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Friday, September 21 at 1:00 PM. We ask that family and friends dress in either a Hawaiian shirt, something colorful or in the gear of one of Pete's favorite teams...Steelers, Pirates, Penn State or Syracuse. He was not one who enjoyed formal attire, and we know he would love to see everyone looking bright and cheery, laughing and smiling as they recall the wonderful stories and time spent with him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Pete's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403.
